OVERLAPPING DUTIES — WHAT THAT MEANS ON YOUR SITE Under the Health and Safety at Work Act 2015, when a contractor works on your site both businesses have duties and they overlap. That is not paperwork for its own sake — it means we have to be inducted to your site, work to your traffic management, and coordinate rather than turn up and start. In practice: we get inducted, we follow your forklift and pedestrian separation rules, we agree which areas are being cleaned when so machine traffic can be planned around it, and we do not improvise around moving plant. LINE MARKINGS ARE A SAFETY CONTROL, NOT DECORATION Pedestrian walkways, racking aisles, hazard zones and exclusion areas only work if people can see them. Rubber scuffing, dust film and general grime make markings progressively less visible until nobody follows them, and that happens slowly enough that nobody on site notices. Scrubbing floors properly restores marking visibility, which is a genuine safety outcome rather than an appearance one. It is worth walking your own floor and asking whether the lines are as clear as they were when they were painted. DUST IS THE REAL PROBLEM Concrete dust, cardboard dust from carton handling, and pallet debris are what actually degrade a warehouse. Dust settles on stock and packaging, gets into machinery and electrical cabinets, blocks vents, and accumulates on racking beams where nobody looks. High-level racking dust is the most neglected job in most warehouses. It needs access equipment and it needs doing while the aisle is closed, so it is scheduled work rather than something squeezed into a routine visit. Left long enough it falls onto stock, and by then it is a product problem. SWEEPING VERSUS SCRUBBING Sweeping moves dust around and puts a portion of it into the air. Scrubbing removes it. For a working warehouse floor, mechanical scrubbing is what actually changes the condition — sweeping is maintenance between scrubs, not a substitute for them. We will tell you honestly which your floor needs. A site that has been swept for two years usually needs a scrub before a maintenance schedule makes any sense. WHAT WE DO NOT DO We do not clean inside electrical cabinets or switchboards, work on or near live plant, enter confined spaces, or handle hazardous substances or spills of unknown material. Those need the right people with the right training, and a cleaning contractor treating them as routine is a risk to your site. We will identify and report anything like that rather than working around it silently. HOURS Most warehouse work is done outside operating hours or during a scheduled shutdown, when aisles can be closed and machine traffic has stopped. Weekend and shutdown work is normal for us. For sites running extended shifts we work zone by zone around your operation.
